| Happy late Tet Trung Thu (Zhong Qui Jie)! Talk about a packed weekend...
| | |
| A few thoughts on recent events:
Last weekend, I went up on Mount Palomar in San Diego for UVSA's leadership camp. It was awesome meeting a bunch of cool kids, building up trust and teamwork, and learning about Vietnamese culture. Yeah, right, who am I kidding??? Seriously, the whole time we were just continually getting naked hahaha. Our very first event as a family was called "clothesline" where each group had to try make the longest line using only their clothing. The next day, half the events had to do with water or us getting wet. Way to go, Hai, spraying the crap out of us for no reason. No lies though, the staff did a great job to give us the most for our money. On the subject of camps, look out for UT VSA to throw a leadership summit at the end of November or at the beginning of December!
Today at the 2nd general meeting, UT VSA split the members up into families; not surprisingly, my family is AWESOME. The theme of this year's families is non-alcoholic drinks, and so my family is "Bawls" and our slogan is "So good, you don't even wanna swallow." Tan came up with "Big bawls, in yo mouth" but another group already has a slogan like it...gotta keep thinking of new ones to keep it interesting. Saturday is Beach Bash which will include competitive games for family points, so watch for the Bawls family to go and destroy everyone else, just wait!
No school tomorrow but I gotta sleep, lates

| "USC has been the country's top program since 2002, going 59-6
with two national championships and a near-miss. This season, the
Trojans expect to walk away from the BCS national championship game
in New Orleans with the crystal football."
^ This is why I extremely dislike USC football. The AP poll gave credit to USC for a national championship when USC didn't even play the #1 ranked BCS team! How does a team win a "national championship" if they didn't beat the nationally ranked #1 OR #2 team? That's right, they don't, and beating the #4 BCS-ranked team DOES NOT merit USC a share of the claim of the national title. Take that "2003 champions" off your record and keep dreaming, because you don't deserve the title.
After 2004, all of the SEC really started to hate USC. This was year that Auburn, Oklahoma, and USC all went undefeated. Auburn, the #3 team, got snubbed while USC and Oklahoma played for the national championship. Auburn went on to win their bowl game against #4, Virginia Tech, and USC won against Oklahoma. Unlike USC from the year before, Auburn didn't win a share of the national championship. What should have happened? USC should have played Auburn, and Auburn would have beat the crap out of USC. Also, LSU should have played USC in 2003, and LSU would have stomped USC as well. The easiest way to settle a title dispute would be pit the top two teams together, and without a doubt LSU would have won.
PAC-10, you suck. Let's petition USC to play a non-conference schedule with 4 SEC teams. If USC went through with that, there's no way they would go undefeated. I hope an SEC team will go undefeated this year and play USC for the national championship so that SEC fans will get an opportunity to see USC get killed.
Oh, and USC's "near miss?" That loss was against a better UT team, and almost doesn't count. Thanks for the media bias by reporting the "near miss," ugh.

| I'm nearing the end of my online classes (GOVT 1, HIS 1) for summer session II! I'm already done with history and made an A, and I have to write three more essays before the government class ends on Thursday. After I finish, I'll have a two week break to relax before I get into the school routine again. Tuition's due tomorrow (check); add/drop starts August 26 at 8 a.m.
Does anyone listen to any cool podcasts? Podcasts never caught my attention until today when Liang told me to go to iTunes to subscribe to a few. I was looking for business news podcasts, but I found one for Flight of the Conchords! I first heard of these guys from Jeff Chen (DJ Kid Stylez) when he posted up a Youtube video of one of their performances on HBO. Check them out; they're fresh, funny, and laid back. Hopefully I can find a few other podcasts to download and listen to when I'm driving around.
My active connections around Baton Rouge are diminishing fast. All the college kids are moving on, and all the highschool kids are starting to do their own thing. Next summer I hope to have an internship in a crazy place (like Shyna). Not spending time in Baton Rouge will definitely stall some of my friendships. I still run into people fairly frequently, but I need to keep my friends here close. These are the kids that give Baton Rouge the sense of "home," which is a place for chillax'n without any social pressure =p. In other words, I can come back here and not worry about anything and it's all cool.
This summer without plans has definitely been more productive at the end, but it's not quite over until I get these classes out of the way, so I'm going to get back to that. Until then, peace easy.

| Hello, Xanga. Have you missed me? I apologize for being away for so long...
"
^ This was the first reply on my last post. 9.2.86-4.25.07
So many things have happened since I last wrote on Xanga. At the beginning of the summer, I didn't recognize how exhausted and burned out I was from volunteering, VSA events, school work, and the multitude of pent-up emotions. I stayed home for weeks and didn't call anyone when I got back to Baton Rouge (thanks Max and Chandrew for keeping me socially sane).
Since then, the summer's picked itself up. I think right now is the most I've wanted to connect with people in a long time, probably because I finally have *so much* free time. Anderson Lee told me that what people do in their free time defines them in a way, and it makes sense. With so many promising things for the future, I wonder where I'll focus the most of my time and energy next year.
Meanwhile, I've got two more weeks of summer classes and "babysitting" my cousin before the school routine starts back up. I'll be in Houston from Friday to Tuesday with my mom, uncle, and cousin, but any H-town peeps who still read my Xanga can call me up and we can chill at night. Welcome back for now, Xanga.
